This is a cosmetic procedure, that is self-administered while under the watchful eye of a trained professional. The best way to perform a professional teeth whitening treatment is to use a proper whitening agent (that is, a strong, effective whitening gel) and an appropriate whitening accelerator. The safest and most practical accelerator is an LED laser emitting cold blue light with a wavelength of around 465 nanometers. This wavelength of light is ideal for activating the gel and accelerating the whitening process. Atlantic Teeth Whitening uses what are recognized by the dental industry as the most effective bleaching gels and the most sophisticated bleaching lamps in the industry, thus offering the professional results you are looking for.
When you first come in, you will be asked a few questions about your oral health to make sure you are good candidate for the LED blue light treatment.
Patients that have existing sensitivity, recently cracked teeth, open cavities, exposed roots, or other dental conditions are typically not good candidates and may have increased or prolonged tooth sensitivity after a teeth whitening treatment.
After signing a waiver, you will watch a short video about the treatment and how it works and what to expect. At Atlantic Teeth Whitening, our professional teeth whitening 16% Hydrogen Peroxide gel is administered using a pen-like applicator and cheek retractor that helps open your mouth to obtain the most effective treatment possible. (We do not use gel filled trays. Trays tend to tire the mouth and partially block the LED blue light).
Once the gel is applied to your teeth, you will sit comfortably while the LED blue light activates the gel and starts the whitening process. Fresh gel will be reapplied every 15-20 minutes to get the most out of your treatment and typically, the longer the treatment, the better the results.
All of our whitening rooms are completely private and each one has it’s own HD T.V. so you can flip through your favorite shows, news, or sports channels as you sit back and relax! Special goggles are worn during your treatment to protect your eyes from the LED light but keep in mind the blue light is a “cold” light and is not at all hot, painful, or dangerous as long as you keep your goggles on.
